How much is your Canadian business worth?

A free business valuation calculator. Get an estimated EBITDA multiple and sale price range in about two minutes, emailed to you and kept confidential. We ask for your contact details at the end, so we can send it.

Step 1 of 3

About your business

Pick the closest fit. Multiples differ meaningfully between sectors.

Your earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, adjusted for owner pay above market and one-off items. Typing 4m or 850k works.

Not sure of your EBITDA? Work it out

Start with last year's net income, add back the items below, and enter any that apply. Use a negative number to subtract.

Adjusted EBITDA: $0

Used only to sanity-check your margin.

Step 2 of 3

How a buyer will see it

10 questions that move the multiple most. Answer as a buyer's accountant would, not as an optimist. Your estimate appears once all of them are answered.

How much of your revenue repeats without a new sale each year?
What share of revenue comes from your largest customer?
If you stepped away for three months, what would happen?
How has revenue grown over the last three years?
How strong is the team beneath you?
Who would run the company after you?
How exposed is what you sell to being automated or replaced by AI?
How much of your EBITDA goes back into capital expenditures each year?
How quickly do you turn a sale into cash?
How much does your revenue swing with the economy or your industry's cycle?
Step 3 of 3 · optional

What you might take home

A headline price is not the cash you receive. Add a few details to see how price becomes cash at closing, before tax.

How it works

What the estimator does, and does not, do

Buyers of established private companies mostly price on a multiple of adjusted EBITDA. We start with an indicative range for your sector, for a company earning $3–5 million with average quality. We then adjust for the size of your earnings, and move the range up or down depending on how you answered the quality questions above.

The adjustments reflect how buyers behave: larger companies earn higher multiples (up to about 2 turns more, and as much as 1.5 turns less for the smallest), and the quality factors together can shift the range by roughly 0.9 turns either way. The premium for strong answers grows with size, because institutional buyers pay up for scale combined with quality.

What it is not. It is not a valuation, and it cannot see your contracts, your customers or your market. Two businesses that answer identically can still sell for very different prices. Think of it as a sensible starting range for a conversation.

Your privacy. The calculation runs in your browser. When you ask for your estimate, we receive your contact details and the answers you gave, so we can email you the result and follow up. We never sell or share them. See our privacy policy.

Common questions

Valuing a Canadian business

How much is my business worth?

Most established private companies sell for a multiple of adjusted EBITDA. In Canada that is typically somewhere between 3 and 8 times, depending on the sector, the size of the company and its quality. Use the calculator above for a range based on your own numbers.

How is a business valued in Canada?

Buyers mainly price on a multiple of adjusted EBITDA, which is earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, adjusted for one-time items and owner perks. The multiple moves with recurring revenue, customer concentration, dependence on the owner, growth, the strength of the management team and how much cash the business needs to run.

What is an EBITDA multiple?

It is the enterprise value of a company divided by its adjusted EBITDA. A company earning $5 million of EBITDA that sells for $30 million has sold at six times EBITDA. Higher-quality and larger businesses earn higher multiples.

What multiple do Canadian businesses sell for?

Smaller companies earning under $2 million of EBITDA often sell for 2.5 to 5 times. Companies earning $5 to $15 million of EBITDA, with recurring revenue and a strong team, can reach 7 to 10 times or more. Sector matters too: software and healthcare services usually earn more than trades and distribution.

How accurate is this business valuation calculator?

It gives an indicative range, not a formal valuation. It cannot see your contracts, customers or market, and two businesses that answer identically can still sell for different prices. A buyer's view, or a formal valuation from an accredited professional, will be more precise.

Is the valuation calculator free and confidential?

Yes. It is free, and there is no obligation. We ask for your contact details so we can email you the result and follow up, and we never sell or share them.
